MITCHELL ALTIERI
WRITER | DIRECTOR
MITCHELL ALTIERI
With his family immigrating from Brazil and growing up as an ESL kid in Northern California, Mitchell Altieri turned to movies to help practice the English language. That's where he fell in love with cinema. Years later he would become an award-winning writer/director who has premiered his feature films at festivals such as SXSW, Sundance, Berlin, Sitges, Fantasia & Fantastic. His first feature, the comedy Lurking in Suburbia, was discovered by senior Sundance programmer Trevor Groth. As part of the horror duo, The Butcher Brothers, he wrote and directed The Hamiltons (Lionsgate), April Fools Day (Sony), The Violent Kind (EOne/Showtime), The Thompsons (sequel to The Hamiltons, Lionsgate), and Raised By Wolves (1091). Taking a break from horror, Mitchell directed the psychological thriller Holy Ghost People (Hulu) released in 2014. For his next two films, Mitchell curved into horror-comedy by helming A Beginner’s Guide to Snuff (Lionsgate) and The Night Watchmen (Winner of 25 awards, Gravitas). Returning to the heart of the genre, he directed the 90s teenage horror throwback, Star Light (1091), followed by the highly anticipated creature feature Consumed (XYZ Films) in 2024.
